AUBURN, Ala. —Two Notasulga, Ala., men were killed in a fatal collision Tuesday morning after a three-vehicle wreck on Shug Jordan Parkway, Auburn police said.
The dead were identified as Rodney Harcum Sr., 53, and Joel Christopher Finney, 27. They were killed instantly when the 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix they were riding in was struck head-on by a 2003 CRV driven by Latasha Hall, 26, of Tuskegee.
Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said Harcum and Finney were pronounced dead of blunt force injuries at the scene at 8:05 a.m. CDT.
It took Auburn Fire and East Alabama Medical Center Emergency Medical Services personnel more than 20 minutes to free Hall from the wreckage. She was airlifted by Lifesaver helicopter to University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital in Birmingham, Ala., Police were uncertain of her condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
In a preliminary investigation by the Auburn police and the Lee County coroner, authorities said it appears that Hall’s SUV was westbound on the parkway in the 300 block when it made contact with a westbound 2009 Toyota Corolla driven by a Phenix City man about 7:58 a.m.
Hall’s vehicle then struck the Grand Prix driven eastbound by Finney on Shug Jordan between Wire Road and College Street. The fourth victim in the Corolla was uninjured.
A section of Shug Jordan Parkway was closed temporarily to traffic for hours until the accident was cleared. The wreck remains under investigation by Auburn police and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
