Original Story: The driver of a motorcycle was hurled from his bike and into the windshield of a wrecker truck Wednesday during a fatal collision on Miller Road, Columbus police said in a report.
Paul S. Bloxom IV, 23, of Columbus was pronounced dead at 6 p.m. of blunt force trauma at the accident scene. An autopsy will be conducted in the death, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said Thursday.
The Motor Squad Division is in the preliminary stages of the accident investigation, police said.
In a report of the crash, police said Bloxom was traveling West on Miller Road when a 2003 Ford F-450 truck driven by Kyle Taylor was traveling eastbound. As the truck driver attempted a left turn into an apartment building in the 5500 block, a witness said the truck appeared to swerve to the left as the 2012 Honda motorcycle driven by Bloxom was struck on the left side.
After the collision, the motorcycle driver was hurled from the seat, over the handlebars and his head struck the right side of the truck’s windshield. The body of the motorcycle rider ended up in the roadway.
The truck driver said he didn't see the motorcycle rider before attempting a left turn to his apartment building.
The posted speed limit on the two-lane road is 45 mph.
