A Phenix City man was charged with trafficking in marijuana Sunday after more than three pounds were found at his home, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.
Drew Robert Howell, 33, also faces a charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He was released on $53,000 bond from the Lee County Detention Facility.
Deputies were called to check on a domestic violence complaint at 11:30 p.m. CDT when they discovered that Howell and his live-in girlfriend had been involved in a dispute. The argument escalated into an altercation that could be overheard by neighbors.
During the investigation of the complaint, deputies noticed a strong odor of marijuana in the home. They found a marijuana-growing room with plants in various stages of development.
Deputies also found marijuana in glassware and plastic storage bins along with prescription medication, scales, smoking devices, drug paraphernalia and about $500 in cash. Marijuana seized at the home weighed more than three pounds and had a street value of more than $5,000.
The suspect’s girlfriend was charged with disorderly conduct and freed on $300 bond.
