A Columbus man stopped for driving without lights escaped from police twice early Friday on Fort Benning Road at Trask Drive.
Darriest Anderson, 29, faces one count each of headlights violation, obstruction of law enforcement officer, possession of cocaine, felony escape and driving while license suspended. He is held at Muscogee County Jail for a 2 p.m. Thursday Recorder’s Court hearing.
Police said Anderson jumped from his car and ran as soon as officers stopped the vehicle. Anderson, a grass cutter for the Consolidated Government, was returned after a short foot chase.
Back at the scene, Anderson had asked for cigarette when officers opened a cigarette box and found a small amount of powdered cocaine. Police were clearing the vehicle when Anderson bolted this time with handcuffs on his wrists before he was nabbed a second time.
