The LaGrange police arrested a man who allegedly battered one of their officers Monday night on Hines Street while attempting to escape authorities, according to a release.
Senior Officer John Slonaker sustained a broken nose and laceration to his face, which required stitches, in an altercation with 20-year-old Brandon Bridges of LaGrange, authorities said.
Bridges was apprehended and charged with aggravated battery on a peace officer and felony obstruction.
Police were called to the Summit Station at 320 Commerce Ave. Monday at about 8:28 p.m. in reference to a shoplifting, according to a release.

Officers said they were able to locate and identify a "suspect vehicle" at a LaGrange residence at 506 Hines St. Authorities contacted the occupants of the residence and searched the home in hopes of finding the shoplifters, according to the release.
During the search, Bridges allegedly fled from the area. Police said Slonaker encountered Bridges and an altercation took place in which the suspect harmed the officer.
Bridges continued to run, and Slonaker chased him on foot, police said.
The LaGrange Police Department's Canine Unit and the Criminal Investigation Section arrived on the scene to assist in the investigation. Shortly after, officers found Bridges nearby and took him into custody without incident, the release reads.
The case remains under investigation.
