Columbus police were called to address one of the more unusual vehicle thefts Tuesday when a man reported that a Kubota L48 backhoe was stolen from a Veterans Parkway construction site.
The orange construction vehicle has a white wire that secures its grill, according to the police report.
An officer said he met with a site supervisor in the 7800 block of Veterans Parkway Tuesday at about 8:10 p.m. to discuss the incident. The employee said the theft occurred between 5 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The officer contacted an employee with a nearby Walgreens in hopes of getting surveillance footage of the incident, but the manager of the pharmacy said all of the company's cameras directly face the store. Therefore, the business didn't catch the theft on camera, police said.
Police have yet to obtain video surveillance of the incident from any other nearby business, but they continue to investigate the backhoe theft.
