Phenix City police are investigating the shooting death of a 22-year-old Columbus man.
According to a police report, at approximately 10:20 p.m. Saturday officers received a report of shots being fired in the 200 block of 17th Avenue South. Upon arrival to the area, officers discovered the body of a black male who had been shot in the chest.
The man was identified as Edric Bernard Robinson.
Lt. George Staudinger said it appears Robinson may have been shot several times.
His body was found in a yard.
No weapon was found at the scene.
Russell County Deputy Coroner Lawanna Davis pronounced Robinson dead at 11:08 p.m.
She said some of Robinson's family members were at the scene.
The body will be taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences lab in Montgomery for an autopsy. Staudinger said no eyewitnesses have come forward.
Staudinger said the area of Phenix City in which Robinson was shot is known for parties on the weekend. He said that a lot of people were in the area and he is sure there is somebody with some knowledge of what happened. Police want them to come forward and help.
"We don't have much right now," he said.
Staudinger said he believes this is the third homicide of the year for Phenix City.
