Update: Barry Jerome Allen, 54, of Columbus pleaded guilty Wednesday to all charges stemming from the sexual abuse of a 16-year-old girl. He was ordered held in the Muscogee County Jail.
Allen was issued bonds totaling $51,000 under certain conditions. The defendant was ordered not to annoy, harass or intimidate the teen. Recorder’s Court Judge Michael Cielinski said he must also avoid the teen's work place and residence.
The suspect waived the preliminary hearing to Superior Court. Therefore, no additional details concerning the incident were presented in Recorder's Court.
Update: A 54-year-old man has been accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old child Monday near Benning Drive, according to an arrest report.
Barry Jerome Allen of Columbus faces one count each of child molestation and sexual battery in relation to the 12:15 p.m. incident, Columbus police said. He's set to appear in Recorder's Court Wednesday at 9 a.m., officials said.
Police said they believe the suspect touched the Columbus girl inappropriately on the outside and inside of her clothing. The incident happened in a residence about a mile away from the intersection of Cusseta Road and Benning Drive, the report states.
Authorities said they were notified about the incident Monday at about 12:32 p.m., and Allen was arrested at his home at about 1 p.m.
