Man wanted in shooting death of Blake Berry

More than two months after Blake Berry was dropped off with fatal gunshot wounds at Midtown Medical Center, police have identified a suspect in the July 4 death.

Terry Cobb is wanted in connection with the murder of Berry, 24. Police said the crime occurred at 316 Bragg Smith St. on Independence Day.

Cobb is the third person police have identified in connection with the murder. The other two are family friend Joseph Delaney Kimble, 32, and Brittany Varner, 27.

Police said Kimble is alleged to have dropped off the victim before he died at the hospital and hosted the party where the shooting occurred. He was charged on Aug. 18 with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, tampering with evidence and giving false statements and writings.

Police also believe that Kimble was in possession of a firearm that he took from Berry at the party. The weapon was hidden from police during the ongoing investigation.

Varner has told police that she was in the room when Berry was shot. She was in Columbus Recorder’s Court on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to a charge of false statements and writings. Police don’t believe that she was directly involved in the death.

-Cobb was released from prison on July 24, 2013, after serving a year of a five-year sentence on three counts of obstruction of a law enforcement officer and a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana, according to records from the Georgia Department of Corrections. He was accused of throwing punches, kicking and trying to bite three police officers on Aug. 7, 2011.

-Cobb is described as black, about 6 feet tall and weighing 155 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair. Anyone with information on Cobb should call Columbus police at 706-653-3400.
