Man, 23, dies after shooting on Wickham Drive
Columbus police are looking for a gunman who fatally shot Christopher Twitty at his Wickam Drive home early today.
Twitty, 23, was pronounced dead at 1:07 p.m. from a gunshot wound to the right lower abdomen, said Muscogee Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley. He was taken to Midtown Medical Center after he was shot about 3:30 a.m.
Worley said Twitty's body will be sent Monday to the crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.
Police Lt. Consuelo Askew said the 911 center received a call from the victim who reported he had been shot. Police are trying to piece together details of the shooting.
"We are still investigating," she said.
Police have very little information other than the victim's call for help. Detectives can't say if Twitty was the victim of a home invasion.
"We really don't know," she said.
Worley said Twitty is the 16th homicide victim in Columbus this year.
His death follows the Oct. 24 shooting death of Benjamin Walker Jr., 20, at his Baywood Court home.
