Homeless man found dead in tent city off Second Avenue

A 60-year-old homeless man was found dead today in an area known as Tent City near Second Avenue and J.R. Allen Parkway, Columbus authorities said.

Major Mansfield was pronounced dead of natural causes at 2:05 p.m., said Deputy Muscogee County Coroner Charles Newton. No autopsy is planned in the death.

Newton said the man had been treated recently for heart problems in the hospital before returning to his tent.
