Update: Man arrested in Stone Creek Court shooting that left one dead

A 33-year-old man was pronounced dead hours after he was shot in the head Tuesday night on Stone Creek Court, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said.

Alcides Ruben Washington of Columbus was pronounced dead of a single gunshot wound to the head at 2:49 a.m. Wednesday at Midtown Medical Center, Bryan said. His body will be sent for an autopsy at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Decatur.

Timothy Edward Tarr, 50, was arrested around 2:33 a.m. Wednesday in connection with the shooting and initially charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was transported to the Muscogee County Jail for an 8 a.m. Friday hearing in Columbus Recorder’s Court.

A murder warrant was expected to be issued for Tarr after Washington’s death, police confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

Columbus police said they were called to the 6700 block of Stone Creek Court around 7:50 p.m. Tuesday to investigate a shooting. When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

He was transported to the hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition but later died.

The motive behind the shooting has yet to be released.
