Columbus teen shot, killed at mobile home park on Crystal Drive

Columbus police are investigating the death of a 15-year-old boy who was shot late Thursday at the Sea Breeze Manufactured Home Community at 6023 Crystal Drive.

Jamyah Allen of Columbus was pronounced dead of a gunshot wound to the chest at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said. His body will be transported today to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Decatur for an autopsy.

Authorities were called to the residential area formerly named Crystal Valley Mobile Home Park around 11 p.m. Thursday to investigate the shooting.

Details about the circumstances that led to the incident have yet to be released, but officials confirmed that it is being investigated as a homicide.

No one has been arrested in connection to the incident, officials said early Friday.

“We’re still in the early stages of the investigation,” Police Capt. Gordon Griswould said.

The teen’s mother said the family only has been told that her son was shot. She declined further comment.

Police Lt. Consuelo Askew of the Robbery-Assault and Homicide Unit said the investigation into the shooting death was continuing late Friday.

The teen’s death is the ninth homicide in Columbus for the year. It’s the first since Alcides Ruben Washington was shot and killed May 24 over a incident involving a paintball gun on Stone Creek Court. Police charged Timothy Tarr, a military police officer with murder in the death.
