Update: Murder warrant issued for teen after shooting of 16-year-old girl
A 16-year-old Columbus girl was shot and killed early Friday morning in a homicide at Wilson Homes apartments at 3400 Eighth Ave., said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.
Lekeshia Moses was pronounced dead of a gunshot wound to the face at 10:57 a.m. at Columbus Midtown Medical Center, Bryan said. Her body will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations crime lab in Decatur for an autopsy.
Late Friday, police issued a murder warrant for Lernard Bonner, 17, Police Sgt. Michael Dahnke said in a release.
Police were called to the public housing complex around 9:45 a.m. after a shot was heard inside Building 107-D, Columbus Police Lt. Greg Touchberry said. There were multiple people inside the apartment at the time.
Touchberry said no arrest has been made.
He said witnesses who were in the apartment during the incident have been fully cooperative with police. Investigators have been at multiple places in Columbus questioning other people who might have information about the shooting.
“We’re still piecing together all the particulars of it,” Touchberry said Friday afternoon. “That’s why half of them are still up there at the crime scene and the rest of us are spread out at other locations trying to figure out exactly what went on.”
Anyone with additional information on the shooting or location of the suspect should contact Sgt. Randy Long at 706-225-4260 or 706-653-3400.
Moses’ death is the 13th homicide in Columbus this year. It came less than two weeks after the June 18 shooting death of Kenneth Holloway Jr., 25, in the 400 block of 17th Avenue off of Cusseta Road.
