One dead, one arrested following Phenix City shooting on Setter Drive
One man is dead and another is in police custody following a Phenix City shooting that occurred Sunday night on Setter Drive, according to a news release from the Phenix City Police Department.
Authorities said they responded to Setter Drive around 10 p.m. Sunday and found 40-year-old Michael Clark of Columbus with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, where he was pronounced dead at 11:14 p.m.
The victim’s body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery on Monday for an autopsy.
Melvin James, 52, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder in connection with Clark’s death. He’s currently in Russell County Jail without bond.
Police said they recovered a small caliber handgun from the scene.
The case remains under investigation.
