The following school districts and schools have notified the Ledger-Enquirer they will be closed Thursday.
Muscogee County, Harris County, Chattahoochee County, Fort Benning, Phenix City, Russell County, Lee County, Troup County, Stewart County, Brookstone, St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic, St. Luke, Calvary Christian, Hallie Turner Private School (closed for day classes, but will open for night classes), Pinehurst Christian, Wynnbrook Christian, Columbus State University, Columbus Technical College, Chattahoochee Valley Community College and Auburn University. The Columbus Museum and the Chattahoochee Valley Libraries also will be closed Thursday.
Friday was supposed to be a day off for Phenix City students, but it will be a regular school day now to make up for the missed classes; the professional development day for teachers will be rescheduled.
The annual Financial Forecast breakfast hosted by Columbus State University's D. Abbott Turner College of Business scheduled for Thursday at 7 a.m. has been cancelled "due to the dangerous driving conditions that early in the morning and the fact that the featured speakers were unable to fly in from New York City," Meri Robinson, the college's development officer, said in an email Wednesday morning.
Wednesday afternoon, CSU spokesman John Lester said in an email about Thursday's closing, "Campus Services employees are working to help make sidewalks and some streets safer for students trying to walk to campus dining facilities, which will remain open in Davidson and in the Rankin downtown. Campus shuttles will not be running."
Georgia Military College Columbus Campus will open late Thursday, at 10 a.m., dean of students Tracie Price said in an email.
Tiffany Wilson, the fund development and marketing coordinator for the Chattahoochee Valley Libraries, reminds folks that while the local library buildings are closed, the collection is available online at www.cvlga.org.
