Congress honors 33 U.S. tribes for creating secret war codes

U.S. military commanders had a problem during World War II, when the Japanese routinely broke their codes, making it easy to predict the actions of American troops. So they brought in Navajo “code talkers,” who used their language to create a code the enemy could never figure out. U.S. officials say the code talkers saved thousands of lives along the way.
