Bank of America agrees to pay $16B-$17B penalty over mortgage meltdown

Bank of America has agreed in principle to pay between $16 billion and $17 billion to settle with the U.S. Justice Department and other regulators over the sale of faulty mortgage bonds, a person familiar with the talks told The Charlotte Observer on Wednesday.
