Two students from Central High School of Phenix City were recently presented scholarships from the Central High School Class of 1979.

Kianah Israel and Hannah Nicole Richards each won a $1,000 scholarship. Both graduated from Central during the spring.

Israel is a freshman at the University of Alabama and Richards is a freshman at Auburn University. They were selected for the awards based on their winning essay on global warming. The essay focused on clean air, clean water and other issues in the environment.

The scholarship was the idea of Reginald Dean Sullivan, president of the class of 1979. The group started meeting last year, planning fundraisers for the scholarship. Lutis Moore was the chairman for the scholarship award.
