203 graduate today

Chattahoochee Valley Community College will graduate 203 students today.Director of Communications Varonika Hamilton said 178 of the graduates elected to participate in the commencement ceremony, which will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Phenix City Amphitheater. Kelvin Redd, the associate director of the Center for Servant Leadership in Columbus, will give the commencement address.Students will be awarded associate degrees in arts, science or applied science, as well as certificates.The college will also give out three special awards to outstanding students.The President's Award is given annually to the student with the highest cumulative grade point average completing a two-year degree program.The Faculty Award of Excellence is presented annually to an outstanding student selected by the faculty for attitude, citizenship and a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.The James Allen Outstanding Student Award is given to the student who is outstanding in the community, college activities and in scholarship. It was established by Allen, a U. S. senator, and Jack L. Ray, chairman and CEO of the Exchange Bank of Alabama in 1966, and is given to students at 21 community colleges throughout the state.
