Set to Integrate
Fifteen classroom teachers of “the other race” will be assigned to four formerly all-white and four Negro schools in Russell County in September. A faculty desegregation plan adopted Monday night by the Russell County Board of Education calls for placement of two Negro teachers in regular classrooms at Chavala and Ladonia, one full-time teacher and one part-time Negro teacher at Russell County High and one Negro teacher at Dixie.
Never miss a local story.
Flags lined a near-deserted Broadway today, silent tributes to those serving their country and to national peace, while the usual downtown crowds prepared for a day crammed with song, ceremony and fireworks.
