Roof gets death penalty after telling jury ‘I still feel that I had to do it’

Dylann Roof did not ask jurors to spare his life for the slayings of nine people in a Charleston church. “I’m not sure what good that would do,” he said. Roof, who is from the Columbia area, represented himself during the penalty phase of his federal hate crimes trial.
