The scene will likely be similar to so many signing day events of the last few years.
Five caps representing some of the premier football programs in major college football — Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas and USC — will be on the table in front of Carver linebacker Jarvis Jones early Wednesday afternoon in the school’s media center.
Shortly thereafter, Jones will announce to the world a decision that will culminate two years of visits from coaches, visits to schools and the often-repeated question “Where are you going to go?”
Jones is one of 10 local high school seniors expected to sign scholarships today with Football Bowl Subdivision schools (formerly Division I-A). You can watch live at ledger-enquirer.com at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Northside’s John Drew will begin the process at an 8 a.m., signing ceremony. From there, the rest of the signees will take their turn signing on the dotted line in ceremonies throughout the area.
The FBS signees include Drew and Shaw’s Kyle Griswould with Duke; Central-Phenix City’s Orwin Smith with Georgia Tech; Glenwood’s Art Williams with Middle Tennessee State; Carver’s Ryan Campbell to Mississippi, LeRon Furr to Oklahoma State, Chris Hubbard to Alabama-Birmingham, and Jones; and Smiths Station’s Colby Miller to Army.
