The Columbus Northern Little League team scored a run in the sixth inning to beat Alabama 8-7 on Sunday in the Southeast Regional.
The victory improved Northern's record to 2-0 in Pool B play.
For Alabama in the top of the third, Richard Constantine hit an RBI-double to right field to tie the score.
Georgia regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Cason Sizemore's single to right field scored Jack Tanner for a 2-1 lead. One batter later, Jacob Pate singled to center field to score Sizemore for a 3-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Alabama loaded the bases with no outs. Daniel Wright chopped a single up the middle, scoring two runs to tie the game, 3-3. Logan Storey then ripped an RBI single down the right field line for a 4-3 lead. Graham Ashcraft hit a bouncing single just out of the reach of the second baseman to bring in two more runs for a 6-3 lead. Colton Schultz doubled to left field to drive in another run and make it 7-3.
Georgia got one run back immediately in the bottom of the fifth when Knox Carter hit a home run to left field to make it 7-4. With runners on first and third with two outs, Sizemore chopped a ground ball to second that was misplayed and Kobie Buglioli scored to cut the lead to 7-5. Blake Hicks hit sharp ground ball that the third baseman was unable to stop, scoring another run to make it 7-6. Pate was walked intentionally to load the bases, and Brandon Pugh singled to tie the game, 7-7.
Georgia pulled out the win with two outs in the bottom of the sixth when Sizemore singled to right field to score Tanner from second base for an 8-7 victory.
On Monday, Alabama (0-2) plays South Carolina (0-1) at 1 p.m. and Georgia (2-0) plays North Carolina (1-0) at 7 p.m.
