The love story of former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron and Columbus native Katherine Webb will now continue on TV.
The couple got engaged a few weeks ago. According to Webb's sister, Laurie, a reality show about the planning of the wedding has already started production. “They’ve already started filming during the proposal,” Laurie, a student at Auburn University, told school paper The Plainsman. “From what I understood, it came from someone else. I don’t think they were trying to get into a reality show, I think they just had the opportunity and decided to take it.”
The family is still looking at venues and dresses.
“We just had to get into wedding mode super quick,” Katherine's mom, Leslie, told The Plainsman. “(Katherine is) wanting to keep it in Alabama, but because it’s such a short time frame, that might not be an option.”
The series will climax with the nuptials, set for July 11 (in between Draft Day and training camp). Producers will follow the couple into the summer, but not exhaustively: cameras "will be filming Katherine and McCarron on certain days when something interesting is going on, along with members of the wedding party, family and some friends," according to the paper.
Webb was raised in the Columbus-Phenix City area and graduated from Auburn. She entered the national spotlight when she watched McCarron play in the BCS National Championship last year. (And the game's commentators watched her.)
The series has not yet been sold to a network.
