Former Carver standout LeRon Furr signs with Lions

Carver alum LeRon Furr will continue his football career with the Columbus Lions, the team announced Wednesday at a news conference.

Furr was a standout at Carver and also at Fort Valley State.

For Carver, he was a member of the 2007 state championship team. He was also a two-time member of the Ledger-Enquirer's All-Bi-City team.

He signed in February 2009 to play at Oklahoma State. After a redshirt season, he saw playing time as a freshman before a knee injury ended his season.

He transferred to Fort Valley where he played from 2012-14.

Furr gained Little All-American honors as a junior. Then as a senior, he was named the SIAC Player of the Year. The linebacker led the league in tackles with 108 with 49 solo and 59 assists. He had 16.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.

Furr was also a finalist for the Cliff Harris award, which is given to the Division II Defensive Player of the Year.

"LeRon is a special type of player," Lions coach Jason Gibson said. "I have followed him since high school here in Columbus. His physical presence on the field will have an immediate impact. "
