AIKEN, S.C. — The Columbus State baseball team continues to pound teams into submission.
Eighth-ranked CSU ripped Armstrong Atlantic for 24 hits, including four home runs, in a 16-6 rout Thursday in the opening game of the Peach Belt Conference tournament.
Third baseman Rodney Rutherford went 3-for-6 with a homer, double and five RBIs. Rutherford’s two-run homer in the eighth gave him 26 for the season, tying him with Jason Jones of Kennesaw State for most home runs in a season.
Rutherford continues to lead all of Division II in home runs.

Leadoff hitter Jonnie Geiger went 5-for-5 and scored four runs. Geiger tied PBC tournament records for hits and runs scored.
Brandon Masters and Thomas Morrison both went 4-for-6. Casey Cook, Brad Bowen and Shaun Spearman had two hits apiece.
Masters, Martin and Spearman all had home runs, and Masters and Spearman had three RBIs apiece.
PBC Pitcher of the Year Korey Noles wasn't at his best, but he didn't have to be as the Cougars led 7-0 after four innings. Noles (12-0) gave up five runs on 12 hits in 6 innings.
