Atlanta Braves pitcher Javier Vazquez was named National League Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 13.
In two starts last week, Javier posted a 2-0 record and a 1.13 ERA while leading the majors with 17 strikeouts in his 16 innings pitched. The veteran right-hander held opposing batters to a .182 batting average and walked only four.
On Sept. 8, Vazquez earned his 12th win of the season while throwing 7 shutout innings against the Houston Astros. On Sunday, Javier turned in an eight-strikeout complete game effort en route to a 9-2 win over St. Louis.
