The Columbus State men's and women's basketball teams began practices Friday afternoon, the first day allowed by the NCAA.
It was the first practice as CSU men's head coach for Robert Moore.
“I couldn't sleep last night I was so excited,” Moore said. “I was just ready to finally get my hands on them and see what kind of team I have.”
Moore's team returns two seniors and five players from last year's squad, and the women's team returns only two players, both seniors, from Jonathan Norton's first season as coach.
“I think there are a lot of emotions on the first day,” Norton said. “You're excited, you're nervous, you have a lot of question marks and you have a brand-new team. With a whole lot of new faces, you don't know you've got just yet.”
The CSU men play an exhibition at Auburn on Nov. 8 and begin the regular season at Alabama-Huntsville on Nov. 15. The CSU women play an exhibition against LaGrange College on Nov. 10 and begin the regular season Nov. 14 with a home game against Barry.
