SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Columbus State men's tennis team beat North Georgia 5-1 on Sunday in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
CSU, which is the No. 4 seed in the regional, plays top seed and host Armstrong State at 10 a.m. today for a berth in the Sweet 16 in Surprise, Ariz. CSU is 0-2 against Armstrong State this season.
The Cougars, 18-5 and ranked No. 15 nationally, beat North Georgia for the third time this season.
CSR won two of the three doubles matches. The teams of Marco Almorin and Adi Malicbegovic and Maciej Kierkus and Benedikt Wilde won and gave CSU a 2-1 lead.
Malicbegovic, Kierkus and Jorge Vargas won at singles for the 5-1 victory.
Columbus State women open regional today against Queens
The Columbus State women's tennis team opens NCAA Division II Southeast Regional play at 9 a.m. today against Queens.
The Lady Cougars are the No. 2 seed, while Queens is No. 7.
At 1 p.m., third-seeded Georgia College will play sixth-seeded Georgia Regents.
The two winners meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday with a berth in the Sweet 16 in Surprise, Ariz., at stake.
