AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn had two solo home runs against Samford but could not manage another hit while the Tigers’ pitching staff was tagged for 16 hits in an 8-2 loss at Plainsman Park.
Samford’s Kyle Putkonen (3-2) earned the win, throwing seven complete innings and holding Auburn to just two runs on hits while striking out eight batters.
Samford (15-26) took Auburn starter Paul Burnside (1-3) for four runs on seven hits and three walks in 4 1-3 innings.
Auburn returns to SEC play this weekend at No. 6 LSU.
