@BR Agate Big B/C:THE STAR
Running back Onterio McCalebb finished with 148 rushing yards on 22 carries, capping his night with a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. He was the first Auburn freshman to top 100 yards in his debut since Bo Jackson accomplished the feat in 1982.
@BR Agate Big B/C:KEY MOMENT
After Daren Bates intercepted a pass deep in Auburn territory early in the third quarter, quarterback Chris Todd threw a pump fake before lobbing a pass up the right sideline that hit wide receiver Terrell Zachery in stride. The junior caught it and out-ran three Louisiana Tech defenders 93 yards for the touchdown to give the Tigers a 20-10 lead. It was the longest play in Auburn history.
Never miss a local story.
@BR Agate Big B/C:KEY DECISION
Auburn’s offense didn’t hit on any big passes early on, but it didn’t discourage the Tigers from continuing to take their shots. After Auburn’s coordinators noticed Louisiana Tech’s cornerbacks creeping toward the line, Todd finally hit it big to Zachery with the long touchdown pass. The Bulldogs had to play things more honest for the rest of the game and the Tigers’ offense exploded for 24 second-half points.
@BR Agate Big B/C:QUOTE OF THE GAME
“Our fans are the greatest fans in the country. I know probably every coach says that. I’ve said this before, that Tiger Walk, if you’re not fired up, you’re in a coma.” — Auburn coach Gene Chizik
