AUBURN, Ala. -- Christian Westerman, one of the top high school offensive linemen in the country, said Friday he will sign with Auburn on national signing day.
Never miss a local story.
The 6-foot-5, 290-pound Westerman, who is considered the top player in Arizona, switched his commitment at a ceremony at his high school in Chandler, Ariz.
Scout lists Westerman as a five-star recruit, the No. 1 offensive guard and No. 17 player overall. Rivals ranks him as a four-star recruit, the nation’s No. 3 offensive tackle and No. 27 overall recruit.
He committed to Texas in April but reopened his recruitment after the Longhorns overhauled their coaching staff.
He visited Auburn in December and reportedly developed a close bond with Tigers offensive line coach Jeff Grimes, who turned down an offer to be Texas’ offensive line coach after the BCS title game.
Westerman is Auburn’s 19th commitment for 2011, with 11 days before the Feb. 2 national signing day.
