AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn may not have a game this weekend, but coverage of the team never stopped. As we've done every Friday of the season, let's take a look back at the best content to be had from Sunday-Thursday.
This cites the best quotes, stories and videos during that span, though it's obviously an abridged version of the items produced. With that in mind, this is supposed to be a short and breezy read, hitting on (what I consider) the highlights.
BEST QUOTESJunior free safety Jermaine Whitehead on the number of injuries his defensive teammates have suffered since the team reconvened for fall camp:
"It kind of hurts that our teammates couldn’t be out there, but we can’t do nothing but play for them. I know they’re watching and proud of us for fighting. I know they’ve got some things they wish they could have been out there to help on, but we’re going to get better with them. Hopefully this week they’ll get back.”
Placekicker Cody Parkey on his recovered onside kick last week versus LSU that was later overturned after officials ruled the senior had illegally touched the ball prior to it going the required 10 yards:
“When I kicked it I saw (the LSU player) coming right at me and I saw the 10 yards. Right when I saw the 10 yards, I grabbed it. I don't know. I thought I had it and it looked good on the replay and all the replays we saw, but apparently the refs thought otherwise."
BEST STORIESbeen beset by injuries since the beginning of the season
With a rare off weekend on their hands, Auburn's players plan to take full advantage. Some, like safety Jermaine Whitehead plan to head home and visit family. Others will stick around town and indulge in off-the-field activities. And then there are those like sophomore linebacker Kris Frost, who will watch as many games as he can this weekend given his love of the sport. For the team as a whole, the open date also allows those walking around at less than 100 percent (such as senior defensive end Dee Ford more time to recuperate.
