AUBURN, Ala. — With a little more than 24 hours until Auburn hosts Western Carolina on Saturday, let's take a look back at the best Tigers'-related content to be had earlier in the week.
This cites the best quotes, stories and videos from Sunday-Thursday. With that in mind, this is supposed to be a short and breezy read, hitting on (what I consider) the highlights.
BEST QUOTESHead coach Gus Malzahn on the decision of senior defensive tackle Jeff Whitaker to take a redshirt and sit out the remainder of the 2013 season:
"He's kind of been playing banged up for the last year or so, anyway. I think it'll just be good for him to be healthy. That's our goal, to get him healthy for next year and have a chance to have his best season."
Sophomore linebacker Kris Frost on why the unit has had issues this year:
“(It’s) just trying to make sure you have all your fits right and everything. It gets complicated from time to time — especially when different teams are doing different things to you. You play a different team with a different scheme every week. It's all about us settling in to the defense and adjusting to it.”
BEST STORIESJunior defensive tackle Gabe Wright had one of the best games of his career last week versus Ole Miss, collecting four tackles (three for loss) and a personal-best two sacks. After stepping foot on campus as one of the top prospects in the Class of 2011, Wright admitted that both he and those around the Tigers program had been "waiting" for that type of performance to surface.
Auburn's linebackers are still looking to make more progress as the season moves along. Up to this point, however, they believe they are lagging behind where they need to be.
