AUBURN, Ala. — Doing "4 at 4" every Monday sometimes turns out to be one of my most difficult stories of the week.
Not because there's too little to talk about. Quite the opposite. There's always so much going on in the world of sports, I find it hard to pare it down to just four points. Be that as it may, I'd like to think I do a pretty decent job picking interesting stories each week.
On that note, let's get to the links!
1. If you've had a chance to watch any sports highlights in the past 24 hours, you've no doubt seen Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant do his best Terrell Owens impersonation and have a pair of meltdowns on the sideline. Afterward, he said it was a positive display of passion. Regardless, Dallas Morning News columnist Rick Gosselin writes if the Cowboys had defended against the Lions nearly as hard as they defended Bryant's tantrums during postgame interviews, they might not have trounced as badly by Detroit's offense. (Yes, this was the same game that saw Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford throw for 488 yards, with 329 of those going to Calvin Johnson.)
Never miss a local story.
2. Boston and St. Louis are set for a pivotal Game 5 tonight in this year's Fall Classic. After a fantastic Game 4, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark delivered, as always, telling the story of the contest's unlikely hero, Jonny Gomes.
3. With three Chase races left in NASCAR's season, Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson are dead-even atop the standings. But in Sunday's race at Martinsville Speedway, graybeard Jeff Gordon showed he still has a little left in him, snapping a 32-race winless streak and moving to third in the standings, 27 points behind the top duo.
4. At one time, it seemed I closed every "4 at 4" with a video. As the season has progressed, that has occurred more and more rarely. No need to worry about this week, though. If you haven't seen "Auburn vs. Texas A&M set to commentary from WWE announcers," you're missing out.
(Note: I've probably watched each of these videos more than 30 times apiece since I was first tipped off to their existence last Monday night.)
No further words are needed from me.
