AUBURN, Ala. — Since Auburn put the finishing touches on its victory in the SEC Championship game last Saturday, the awards and nominations haven't stopped.
It continued on Friday, as the Tigers had four players honored by Sporting News. Tre Mason and Chris Davis were named All-Americans at running back and punt returner, respectively. Mason, a junior from Palm Beach, Fla., leads the SEC in rushing yards (1,621), rushing yards per game (124.7) and total touchdowns (23). Davis, a senior corner from Birmingham, Ala., ranks second in the nation in punt return average at 20.1 yards per attempt.
Sporting News also selected Auburn's Gus Malzahn co-Coach of the Year, sharing it with Duke's David Cutcliffe.
In addition, the Tigers had a pair of players picked for Sporting News' All-Freshman team in Alex Kozan and Carl Lawson.
For Kozan, it was the second All-Freshman honor in as many days, joining the nod he received from SEC coaches on Thursday. The Castle Rock, Colo., native has been an integral part of Auburn's offensive line, starting all 13 games at left guard this season.
Lawson has been every bit as important defensively, as the first-year end ranks second on the team in sacks (4.0) and tied for third in tackles for loss (along with Cassanova McKinzy) with 7.5.
