NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Jameis Winston is not the only Florida State Seminole who views Auburn as a rivalry game.
FSU offensive coordinator Lawrence Dawsey is a Dothan, Ala., native and played on a Northview High School team that won the Alabama 6A state title in 1985.
Dawsey is a former Seminole wide receiver.
"I am looking forward to going back to Alabama and saying, 'Hey, we did beat the Auburn Tigers,'" Dawsey said on Friday. "My family has been calling and saying, 'Hey, I don't want to eat crow, but they're trash talking back here about the Auburn-Florida State game."
Dawsey talked about being recruited by former Auburn assistant coach Bud Casey. Asked why he didn't pick Auburn as a player, Dawsey just laughed.
"It had a lot to do with that wishbone they ran," he said.
