PASADENA, Calif. — Alex Kozan can now say his play has earned the respect of those around the country.
On Monday, Auburn's starting left guard was named to the Football Writers Association of America's Freshman All-American team. Last month, he was named to the SEC's All-Freshman team by the league's coaches. Kozan, who hails from Castle Rock, Colo., has been a fixture in the Tigers' starting lineup this season, manning the left guard spot in all 13 games.
He'll make his 14th start tonight in the BCS championship game.
Since the FWAA also selects a first-year coach to add to the team, it went with Auburn's Gus Malzahn, who has directed the Tigers to a 12-1 record this season.
Never miss a local story.
Kozan wasn't the only player competing in the game who was named to the FWAA's all-freshman team, either, as Florida State's Jameis Winston — the Heisman Trophy winner — was also honored by the organization. Winston was joined by teammate Jalen Ramsey, a defensive back.
