AUBURN, Ala. — Greg Robinson showed up at Auburn’s Pro Day on Tuesday morning and got his measurements taken.
He checked in at 6-foot-5 (and one eighth) and 327 pounds, down five pounds from the NFL combine last month. And then that was it. After his impressive showing at the combine, Robinson didn’t take part in other aspects of workouts (like the 40-yard dash and the bench rep) Tuesday.
“I feel I did have good numbers. I didn’t do too good on the three-cone or the L-drill but that was just something that happened later in the combine,” Robinson said. “I felt I could have improved on it, but I talked to my agent and he said it wouldn’t affect me much. I don’t know as far as how much it would affect me, but I don’t think I needed to redo it, so I was satisfied.”
While he passed on the drills, Robinson focused on other areas for NFL scouts in attendance. Noting that he didn’t have to do as much pass-blocking in the Tigers’ run-heavy offense last season, talent evaluators wanted to see Robinson work on his footwork and hand placement.
“They said we didn’t work out of a three-point stance much here, so they put me in three-point stance and (saw) me pull and shoot my hands and stuff,” he said. “Because they (had) seen on film I would expose my chest so they wanted me to do a lot of single-punching drills. They said that’ll help me keep everything within and not wind up and expose my chest much.”
A fresh pair of eyes like that always helps, Robinson said. He harshly critiques his own game, watching copious amounts of film. Because of that, it’s sometimes easy for him to miss things.
That’s why he welcomes the feedback.
“It’s just better to hear from other people (to) advise myself that way,” he said. “As far as me trying to find bad things on myself, it’s just something that I’m used to doing so I don’t think it’s wrong but hearing it from other people it makes more sense just to see what they have to say. And if it’ll help me I’ll use it.”
