AUBURN, Ala. — After filling four of the spots on his support staff, Gus Malzahn said the hiring is done.
But he was quite pleased with the four coaches he's brought into the fold over the last month. One of those was Bobby Bentley, a longtime friend of Malzahn who was formerly the coach at Byrnes High School in Duncan, S.C.
In Bentley's new role, he'll work with the Tigers' quarterbacks.
"We go way back. I’ve got a lot of respect for him," Malzahn said. "He’s one of the better high school coaches in the country. He’ll be an excellent college coach. I’ve tried to hire him in the past at different places. We’re glad he’s with us. He’ll be a very successful guy."
Malzahn was equally excited about two other additions: Travis Williams and Doug Goodwin.
"Travis is a former Auburn player that loves Auburn," Malzahn said. "I was fortunate enough, when I was a coordinator here, he was our GA. He really is a sharp guy, so we’re excited to have him. Doug is a guy that’s one of the top high school coaches in the state of Alabama. He’s got a great feel for the Alabama high school coaches. He’s got great respect, and he’s a good person as well as Travis. We’re happy that we got both those guys."
