ATHENS - Less than two weeks after his dismissal from the Georgia football team, safety Tray Matthews has revealed his next home: Auburn.
And thus Matthews follows the path of another former Georgia defensive back, Nick Marshall, who after a year at junior college transferred to Auburn as a quarterback, then led the Tigers to an SEC championship.
Matthews was dismissed after a build-up of off-field issues, including an arrest on double-dipping scholarship checks from UGA. The final straw, sources and Matthews said, was an incident in a summer school class.
Matthews, who started seven games last season and battled hamstring problems, will have to sit out this season, then be eligible to play at Auburn in 2015. He revealed the news via his Twitter account on Saturday:
