HOOVER, Ala. — Coming out of the spring, Kentucky still had three players battling to become the starting quarterback: third-year sophomore Patrick Towles, redshirt freshman Reese Phillips and true freshman Drew Barker.
That’s not even mentioning rising junior Maxwell Smith, who played nine games last season but sat out the spring after undergoing surgery to his throwing shoulder.
At media days on Thursday, coach Mark Stoops refused to lend much insight into the competition.
“We're still unsettled on who the starter is going to be, but I'm very confident that we're going to improve at that position,” Stoops said. “It starts with the players around him.”
