AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn isn't set to release its two-deep depth chart until Tuesday. But defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson had a feeling who will start at the two tackle spots in his 4-2-5 alignment.
"I would say (defensive line coach) Rodney (Garner) right now would go with (Jeff) Whitaker and (Angelo) Blackson," he said. "It’s almost lineman by committee. We've got about eight or nine guys there, and some of them have had better performances and have more experience, but I don’t think he’s got any concern of putting any one of nine guys on the field right now."
Senior Gabe Wright is continuing to work at both end and tackle, Johnson said. That's not the case for sophomore lineman Montravius Adams. Mirroring Wright, he had been cross-training at both positions.
Now, he's started to spend more time on the perimeter.
Never miss a local story.
"Montravius has been a little more outside now," Johnson said. "As far as base defense, he’s playing outside at defensive end and we’re working him inside on third down quite a bit."
