AUBURN, Ala. — Defensive back Joe Turner didn't appear in a single game for Auburn last season. And apparently he never will take the field for the Tigers. According to defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, Turner is no longer a member of the team.
Muschamp wouldn't provide further details on Turner's departure.
"He hasn't been with our program," Muschamp said Tuesday, "and Coach (Gus) Malzahn will address that."
Turner was the final addition to the Tigers' 2014 signing class. One week after national signing day concluded last year, Turner pledged to Auburn. His signing brought a long, multi-faceted recruitment to an end. After playing at the College of San Mateo (Calif.) in 2013, he committed to Washington State. But he didn't graduate in time to join the Cougars the following spring, which led them to give Turner's spot in the signing class to another player. He then reopened his recruitment before committing to the Tigers on Feb. 12.
But his one season on the Plains turned out to be forgettable, as Turner was unable to crack into the rotation in the secondary and never left the sideline.
