AUBURN, Ala. — Carolina could field an all-Auburn, all-Cameron backfield in the near future. The Panthers, set with Cam Newton at quarterback, picked running back Cameron Artis-Payne on Saturday in the fifth round of the NFL draft.
Despite being drafted, the Pennsylvania native isn't lacking for motivation.
"I was the 15th running back drafted I'm out to prove a lot of people wrong," Artis-Payne told reporters in a conference call. "With how I worked to get here, I really don't think there are too many people that have the drive and desire that I do to be great."
Artis-Payne, a junior college transfer who joined Auburn in 2013, led the SEC in rushing last season, finishing with 1,608 yards. He also scored 13 rushing touchdowns and caught 13 passes for 147 yards.
