Florirda State defensive coordinator Charles Kelly will not returning to his alma mater, Auburn, according to multiple published reports.
Kelly met with Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn on Thursday regarding the defensive coordinator position, according to AuburnUndercover reported.
Kelly played in Auburn as a defensive back from 1986-1989. He coached at Central-Phenix City High in the early 1990s.
Malzahn has not publically named any of the coaches he has talked to about replacing Will Muschamp, who was named the head coach at South Carolina earlier this week.
“I’m not going to get into any kind of names. I’m going after the best guy,” Malzahn said at Thursday’s Birmingham Bowl news conference.
Auburn linebackers coach Lance Thompson and former assistant Travaris Robinson were others Malzahn was asked about during the news conference.
