Georgia offensive line Brandon Kublanow jokingly gave his friend Carl Lawson some bulletin board material Tuesday at SEC Media Days.
Kublanow recalled facing the Auburn defensive lineman as high school seniors in a game broadcast on ESPN U.
“We whipped his butt,” Kublanow said before pausing. “Nah…I’m just kidding.”
But Kublanow’s alma mater Walton High School did beat Milton High School 27-7 for a fourth straight win over the rival program.
Kublanow isn’t worried about his dig getting back to Lawson, who he snap chatted on Monday night. The two talk regularly and the offensive lineman is happy to see his friend healthy heading into the season.
“He’s a great player,” Kublanow said.
Kublanow and Lawson will have one final collegiate showdown on Nov. 12 when Auburn visits Sanford Stadium. When the two have been on the same field, Kublanow’s teams have come out on top — he didn’t play in the Prayer at Jordan-Hare — a streak he hopes to continue this season.
“I have a lot of friends from high school that go to Auburn,” Kublanow said. “It’s always bragging rights.”
