TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Alabama sophomore cornerback Geno Smith was arrested for driving under the influence over the weekend, according to publicquery.tuscco.com, a website for the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
Smith's bond was set at $1,000, according to the website.
“This is obviously not the kind of behavior we expect from our players," Tide coach Nick Saban said in a statement. "I don’t have all of the details at this point and will handle it appropriately once I’ve had a chance to review the information.”
Smith spent much of preseason practice working as Alabama's third cornerback in the "star" position. The Atlanta native had nine tackles, two pass breakups and two passes defended in 13 games as a true freshman.
Smith is the first Tide player to be arrested since February, when four players -- D.J. Pettway, Eddie Williams, Tyler Hayes and Brent Calloway -- were involved in multiple incidents of second-degree robbery and credit card fraud and eventually dismissed from the team.
