TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Former Bowling Green wide receiver Gehrig Dieter announced Saturday afternoon his intentions to play football at Alabama this coming season as a graduate transfer.
Dieter posted the news on his Twitter account in a long statement while also thanking Bowling Green and his coaches there.
Dieter, who will be eligible to play immediately, is coming off a breakout season in which he caught 94 passes for 1,033 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Dieter is listed at 6-foot-3, 207 pounds. He could fill the vacancy at the slot position left by Richard Mullaney’s departure, who the Tide brought in last season as a one-year grad transfer.
Dieter joins a deep, but very inexperienced receiver group for the Tide. With Mullaney gone, only Calvin Ridley and ArDarius Stewart played major roles last season. The Tide also has tight end O.J. Howard back in the fold.
Robert Foster should be back off of shoulder injury, but even he only 2.5 games last year before tearing his rotator cuff.
Cam Sims is coming off a knee injury that limited his role last year.
Dieter is expected to join the team during the summer time.
